Michèle Gilbert

Born in 1957 in Saint-Cloud, her parents were architects. She started drawing very young, as if it were natural to her, and what she would draw was… houses. After she studied at the Superior National School of Decoration Art (ENAD) of Limoges, she worked in the stained glass workshop of that same town. In 1979, she met the man who would become her husband, Dominique Gilbert. They implemented their plan of becoming enamel artists in the Limousin countryside. She participated to the international biennials of the enamel of Limoges, exhibited in France and abroad. In 1989, She met very enriching artists from the ex U.S.S.R., during the metal-enamel “symposiums” in the Baltics. All these encounters would impregnate her work.

Michèle Gilbert draws and enamels the nature that surrounds her with colours, and she transcribes memories of walks, immemorial atmospheres, solitary or social moments. She draws in all that material for creation. The enamel products exhibited at the Emoluxe Gallery have essentially been created according to the « champlevé » technique, shaped as canvas shown on a slate background and with small objects for inside decoration. Each piece is labelled as unique.
