In 1954 Henri and Marie-Madeleine Cheronset up their Enamel Workshop in Limoges. Now, their daughter Christine is at the head of the workshop with her two daughters: Cécile for the "enamel" and Sandrine for the "jewelry"sector. Most of their production is unique pieces or limited series.
Specializing the art of enamel painting, this workshop is the last family business to perpetuate the production of miniatures and grisailles in "Blanc (White) Limoges" in the purest tradition and with a craftsmanship that is transmitted only from generation to generation. This technique appeared in France in the sixteenth century and was used in miniatures in the nineteenth century.
The Cheron family enterprise is the last in France to master this technique mainly used in jewellery making. Their business is referenced in the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.. |
